Shannon Burke's Real Ride May 13th 2006 |
The Real Bike Saturday in the radio station parking lot ready to ride.
When hear there is going to be a motorcycle event, we make plans to be there. When we hear it will involve 1,000 bikes going for a 50 mile ride from Orlando to Destination Daytona, we get real enthused! The ride was presented by Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona The Worlds Largest Harley Davidson Dealer And Bic Comfort 3 Shavers. Shannon Burke, the host of his own show on WTKS 104.1 Orlando has a large audience of motorcycle enthusiasts and hundreds of them showed up for the inaugural ride. Burke's ride for the day was a custom chopper ( the real bike ) designed by Shannon Burke and Daniel of the Monsters of the Morning show also on WTKS.

The ride was to be escorted by the Florida Highway Patrol from the radio station located in Maitland along Interstate 4 to Ormond Beach, just north of Daytona Beach. The FHP did a great job insuring that all the riders where able to stay in a group and everyone arrived at Destination Daytona without incident. Some of the other radio personalities present were Daniel, Drunky the Bear, Soul Brother Kevin and Dirty Jim.

Hundreds of motorcycles fill the radio station parking lot before the ride.

The parking lot at the radio station looked like a mini Biketober packed with what looked liked every type of motorcycle made. The event started early ( 7:30 a.m.. ) with breakfast for the riders, so by 11:00 a.m.. when we arrived the crowd was getting anxious. The weather for the day was wonderful and the ride was well planned and organized with the exception of lack of cooperation and misinformation by the station event coordinator Jeff Wagstaff.
The official start of the ride was at 12:00 noon as hundreds of motorcycle riders headed out for a ride with Shannon Burke up Interstate 4 toward De Land. Some 100 of the riders signed up as VIP to be in the front of the line of bikers and the entire ride took about an hour.

After the group arrived at Destination Daytona, lunch was served with hospitality tents set up to provide shade to cool down and eat. Drinks where very reasonable being served outside the saints and sinners pub with live music starting shortly after lunch. The Shannon Burke Real Ride was a hit for summer 2006 and we look forward to next year.
